Bosch 2608669092 Cutting Set, 5 Pieces

The Bosch 2608669092 is a five-piece Starlock oscillating multi-tool blade set built around one idea: cover every cut a professional actually makes — straight, plunge and flush — across stainless steel, hardwood, wood with nails, plastics and drywall, without changing sets. It pairs one carbide blade for metal with four bi-metal blades for wood, mixed materials and general cutting, and every blade uses the Starlock mount for full power transfer and a three-second, tool-free change.

Made in Switzerland.

Key features

  • Five professional blades, each specified for a different cut — no overlap, no gaps
  • EXPERT carbide blade for metal — up to 50x the life of a standard blade in stainless steel¹

  • Straight, plunge and flush cuts — including a 65 mm flush-cut blade and an 85 mm segment blade
  • Starlock mount for optimum power transfer and blade changes in around 3 seconds
  • Fits over 20 multi-tool brands, not just Bosch

Why five blades and not one

A multi-tool is only as good as the blade in it, and the three cuts professionals need are genuinely different jobs.

Plunge cuts start in the middle of a fixed workpiece with no pilot hole — an opening in a floorboard, a notch in a stud, a cut-out in fitted panel. That is what the three 32 mm AIZ blades are for, and the reason there are three of them is that hardwood, nail-embedded softwood and stainless steel each need a different tooth. Using a wood blade on a hidden nail is how most blades die.

Flush cuts run the blade parallel to a surface — trimming door linings in place, cutting skirting back against a wall, taking a fixed board out without touching what it sits on. The wide AII 65 APB does this, its 65 mm width giving a straight, controlled cut along a face.

Long and curved cuts need the ACZ 85 EB segment blade, whose 85 mm arc keeps cutting through a longer stroke than a straight blade and follows a curve rather than fighting it.

Carbide for metal, bi-metal for everything else

The AIZ 32 AIT is the blade that separates this set from a wood-only one. Stainless steel work-hardens as you cut it: the more a blunt tooth rubs, the harder the material becomes, and a bi-metal blade can lose its edge in a single pipe. Carbide teeth with Bosch's extra coating stay sharp through that, which is where the up to 50x life¹ figure comes from. Use it for stainless pipes, profiles and sheet, and for the fixings a bi-metal blade would round off on.

The four bi-metal (BIM) blades weld a high-speed steel cutting edge to a flexible body — the edge holds up in mixed material, the body flexes instead of snapping when the blade binds mid-plunge. That is what makes them right for wood with nails, where the blade meets timber and steel in the same stroke.

Starlock: why the mount matters

An oscillating tool moves the blade through a tiny arc at very high frequency, so nearly all the wear lands on the joint between blade and machine. A flat clamp bleeds power into vibration.

Starlock uses a three-dimensional form fit — blade and holder interlock across the whole contact surface — so the tool's power goes into the cut, and the blade holds positively under load without slipping. There are no bolts and no hex key: the blade drops in and locks, and comes out again, in around three seconds. On a job that alternates between plunge, flush and metal cuts, that's a change you'll make repeatedly.

Compatibility

Starlock-fitting blades, compatible with oscillating multi-tools from Bosch, Fein, AEG, Berner, BTI, Craftsman, DeWalt, Einhell, Festool, Flex, Hikoki, Kyocera, Makita, Metabo, Milwaukee, Rockwell, Ridgid, Ryobi, Skil, Worx and Würth.

As a rule, a Starlock accessory fits every machine in the Starlock family — Starlock, StarlockPlus and StarlockMax — while blades built to the larger StarlockPlus and StarlockMax standards fit only machines of that size and above. Starlock is therefore the most widely compatible fitting in the range.

Typical applications

  • Cutting stainless steel pipes, profiles and sheet in plumbing and installation work
  • Plunge-cutting openings in floorboards, panels and stud partitions
  • Cutting hardwood, laminate and veneered board cleanly
  • Cutting timber containing nails and screws during strip-out and renovation
  • Flush-trimming door linings, architrave, skirting and decking in place
  • Long and curved cuts in wood, plastic pipe and board
  • Kitchen, bathroom and shopfitting installation; general renovation and maintenance

Getting the best from the blades

Let the tool reach full speed before contact, then apply steady, moderate pressure — force generates heat, and heat is what takes the temper out of a cutting edge. Start a plunge cut at an angle and rock the blade upright as it enters rather than driving it in flat. Slow the tool down in metal, keep the cut clear, and let the blade cool between long cuts. Shift the blade slightly along its width from time to time so you wear the whole edge rather than one spot. Match the blade to the material — using the wood blade on a hidden nail is the single most common way to ruin one.

Wear eye protection, hearing protection, gloves and a dust mask, and use extraction where the work allows it.

Frequently asked questions

What blades are in the Bosch 2608669092 set? Five: AIZ 32 AIT carbide (32 mm × 40 mm, for stainless steel), AIZ 32 BSPB bi-metal (32 mm × 50 mm, for hardwood), AIZ 32 APB bi-metal (32 mm × 50 mm, for wood with nails and mixed materials), AII 65 APB bi-metal (65 mm × 40 mm, for flush cutting) and ACZ 85 EB bi-metal segment blade (85 mm, for long and curved cuts).

Will these blades fit my multi-tool? They are Starlock-fitting and compatible with oscillating multi-tools from Bosch, Fein, AEG, Berner, BTI, Craftsman, DeWalt, Einhell, Festool, Flex, Hikoki, Kyocera, Makita, Metabo, Milwaukee, Rockwell, Ridgid, Ryobi, Skil, Worx and Würth. A Starlock blade fits every machine in the Starlock family, including StarlockPlus and StarlockMax.

Which blade should I use for stainless steel? The AIZ 32 AIT. It uses carbide teeth with an extra coating rather than bi-metal, which is what allows it to last up to 50 times longer than a standard blade¹ in stainless steel pipes, profiles and sheet.

Which blade cuts wood with nails in it? The AIZ 32 APB for plunge cuts and the AII 65 APB for wider and flush cuts. Both are bi-metal, which is what lets them pass through timber and embedded fixings in the same stroke.

What is the ACZ 85 EB segment blade for? Long straight cuts and curves. Its 85 mm arc keeps more cutting edge in contact through the stroke than a straight blade, and it follows a curve instead of binding in it. It cuts wood, board, metal pipe and plastics.

What is a plunge cut, and what is a flush cut? A plunge cut starts in the middle of a workpiece with no pilot hole — cutting an opening in a fixed board. A flush cut runs the blade parallel to a surface, so you can trim something in place, such as a door lining against a floor, without damaging what it meets.

What does "up to 50x longer life" mean? It is Bosch's comparison for the carbide AIZ 32 AIT against the Bosch AIZ 20 AB blade. The two PRO bi-metal blades are rated at up to 3x, measured against the Bosch AIZ 20 AB and AIZ 32 BSPC respectively.

What is the difference between carbide and bi-metal blades? Bi-metal welds a high-speed steel edge to a flexible body: it flexes rather than snapping and handles mixed materials like nail-embedded timber. Carbide uses much harder tipped teeth that stay sharp in materials which work-harden or abrade quickly, such as stainless steel. Carbide costs more and lasts far longer in metal; bi-metal is the better all-rounder in wood.

How do I make the blades last longer? Run at full speed before touching the work, use moderate pressure rather than force, reduce speed in metal, and always match the blade to the material. Most blade failures come from heat, and heat comes from pushing too hard.
