Built for the two jobs tiling actually involves

Taking tiles off a wall is really two separate problems, and most people only have a tool for one of them.

First the joints: the grout and mortar between tiles has to be cut out before anything will lift, and doing it by hand with a rake is slow, or with an angle grinder is fast and indiscriminate — one slip and you've scored the tile you were trying to save, or the plasterboard behind it.

Use on-tool or local extraction, work wet where you can, and wear suitable respiratory protection, eye protection and gloves — a dust mask rated for fine dust, not a nuisance mask. Silica dust is invisible in the air long after the visible cloud settles, so keep protection on while you clear up.

For the blades themselves: run the tool at full speed before contact, then use steady, moderate pressure — force generates heat, and heat is what destroys the cutting edge. Work in shallow passes rather than trying to reach full depth in one, let the blade cool between long cuts, and clear debris out of the joint as you go so the blade cuts rather than grinds. Move the blade along its width occasionally so you wear the whole edge instead of one spot.
